The largest potash deposit in the Soligorsk district formed hundreds of millions of years ago, when an ancient sea existed here. These salts are the basis for fertilizers, and their extraction is carried out at a depth of more than 1 km.
Treasures of Soligorsk
The ancient sea left behind rich deposits of salts at a depth of more than 1 km.
Artificial caves and underground voids have formed near Soligorsk as a result of salt mining. Sometimes they cause ground subsidence, creating small lakes — locals call them "technogenic."
Artificial lakes
The underground cavities left by salt mining are turning into unique bodies of water near Soligorsk.
The territory of Belarus was repeatedly covered by glaciers, which left behind moraine deposits, lake basins, and sand ridges. The underground waters, rich in minerals, and the unique geological formations make the country interesting for research.
The legacy of glaciers
Glaciers left behind moraines, sand ridges, and lake basins — valuable geological monuments.
WHAT IS SO SURPRISING ABOUT THE GEOLOGY OF BELARUS?
Belarus may not be associated with geological treasures, but its subsoil is rich in resources.
